Georgia is one of the few countries where the answer to “when should I go” changes the trip completely. The same three-hour flight from Dubai can land you in wildflower-covered hills, a snowbound ski resort, or the middle of a grape harvest, depending entirely on the month you pick.
That matters more here than in most destinations, because half the country sits behind mountain passes that are simply closed for part of the year. Here is how the seasons actually work, and how to match them to the trip you want.
The Short Answer
For most travellers from Dubai, May to June and September to October are the best months. The weather is comfortable, the mountain roads are open, and prices sit below peak. July and August suit anyone heading for the high mountains or escaping the Gulf heat, while December to March is for skiing and cheap city breaks.
Georgia’s Seasons at a Glance
Season | Months | Weather | Best for |
Spring | April to May | Mild, green, some rain | Sightseeing, wildflowers, low crowds |
Summer | June to August | Hot in cities, ideal in mountains | Trekking, Black Sea coast, escaping Dubai heat |
Autumn | September to October | Warm days, cool evenings | Wine harvest, photography, best all round |
Winter | November to March | Cold, snow in the mountains | Skiing, city breaks, lowest prices |
Spring: April to May
Tbilisi wakes up in April. Temperatures sit comfortably in the high teens and low twenties, the hills around the city turn green, and the tourist crowds have not arrived yet. Hotels are noticeably cheaper than they will be two months later.
The limitation is altitude. High mountain roads, including the route into Tusheti, stay closed well into summer, and Kazbegi can still see snow in April. Svaneti opens up gradually through May.
Spring suits a trip built around Tbilisi, Mtskheta, Sighnaghi and the Kakheti wine region rather than serious mountain travel.
Summer: June to August
This is the season Dubai residents tend to appreciate most, for the obvious reason.
Tbilisi itself gets genuinely hot in July and August, often above 35 degrees, so it is not the time for long days of city walking. The mountains are a different story entirely. Kazbegi, Svaneti and the Tusheti valleys are at their best, the passes are open, and the trekking season is fully underway with temperatures that feel like relief after a Gulf summer.
The Black Sea coast around Batumi is also at full swing, though it is busy and humid, and it draws crowds from across the region.
June is the sweet spot. The mountains are accessible, the heat has not peaked, and prices are lower than in July and August when UAE school holidays push demand up.
Autumn: September to October
If we had to pick one window, this is it.
September brings warm days, cool evenings, and thinner crowds. October adds autumn colour across the Caucasus and some of the best light of the year for anyone travelling with a camera.
It is also harvest season. Rtveli, the grape harvest in Kakheti, usually runs from late September into October, and many wineries let visitors take part. For a country where wine has been made for eight thousand years, this is the most interesting time to be there.
Mountain roads generally stay open until the first serious snowfall, which gives you both the highlands and the vineyards in a single trip. That combination is not available in any other season.
Winter: November to March
Winter splits into two very different trips.
For skiing, Gudauri is the main resort and the most accessible from Tbilisi, with Bakuriani suiting families and beginners and Mestia offering something more remote. The season typically runs from December through to March or early April depending on snowfall, and lift passes cost far less than European equivalents.
For a city break, Tbilisi in winter is cold but atmospheric, with sulphur baths that make far more sense in January than in July. This is also the cheapest time to visit, with the exception of the New Year period.
The trade off is access. Much of the high country is closed, daylight is short, and some rural guesthouses shut for the season.
Which Season Suits Which Trip
- First visit, general sightseeing: May, June, September or October
- Trekking and high mountains: late June through September
- Wine and harvest: late September into October
- Skiing: January through March
- Lowest budget: November and February outside the ski resorts
Planning Around the UAE Calendar
Flight prices from Dubai are shaped as much by the UAE calendar as by Georgian weather.
Eid holidays are among the busiest outbound periods of the year, and fares to Tbilisi and Batumi climb sharply. If you are travelling then, book several months ahead rather than weeks.
The same applies to July and August, when school holidays overlap with peak season in Georgia. Travelling in the first half of June or the second half of September usually costs meaningfully less for very similar weather.
Direct flights from Dubai run to both Tbilisi and Batumi, which keeps the journey to around three hours and makes a five or six-day trip realistic without burning much annual leave.
A Note on Entry Requirements
Georgia’s entry rules for UAE residents changed during 2026, and some nationalities that previously qualified for visa on arrival now need to apply in advance. There have also been changes around travel insurance requirements for the duration of your stay.
Your position depends on your passport nationality as well as your UAE residence status, so check before you book flights rather than after. We handle this as part of arranging the trip if you would rather not work through it yourself.
